UPDATE: Click here for a link to the archived chat that occurred on the 23rd. Thanks to all who joined–and thanks to Amil Cook for “chirpifying” the chat!

ORIGINAL POST:
Two years ago, a small group of us started building weekly on Twitter about hip-hop and education. The chat has grown to include hundreds of people from around the world. Each week, we tackle a topic located at the intersection of hip-hop culture and education.

I’m honored to be a co-convener of these chats, along with my partners: Dr. Chris Emdin, Brandon Frame, Tim Jones, and Amil Cook.

This week the topic of the chat is Hip Hop Genius–a concept that I have developed over the last decade with my crew of hip-hop-ed-heads.

Peep the video and article below and join the conversation! It’s easy, just jump on Twitter at 9pm eastern on Tuesday, October 23rd. Punch “#HipHopEd” into the search bar up top, follow along, and join in by putting “#HipHopEd” anywhere in your tweet.

I have updated this section, because my gramma wants to join the chat and my explanation of Twitter was not clear enough!:
If you don’t have a Twitter account, it only takes a few seconds to create one. All you need to do is go to www.Twitter.com, look for the Sign Up box, enter your email address, a username, and a password. My username is @husslington, so if you’re trying to get started you can search for me and check out who I follow…

As “homework” for this week’s chat, check out this video:

And read this article:

Remixing Education: Hip-Hop Pedagogy, School Design and Leadership
in UnBoxed (High Tech High Graduate School of Education Journal) in Fall 2009

And, if you’re hungry for more, grab the book (you can get started on the ebook right away!):

Looking forward to building with you!
